Factors affecting User Experience: Part 2

There are seven factors that have been described by the pioneers in the UX domain. These are also referred to as the user experience principles. We discussed three factors in part 1. We will discuss the remaining factors affecting User Experience in this part.

Credible

This principle states that a service, or product should be trusted by the consumer. The more trustworthy you are, the more the consumers use your products or services and eventually adding to the sales and returns. Undoubtedly, credibility adds to the user experience, making it critical to give consumers what they want. This also helps retain the consumer, making them loyal customers of the brand. Consider the situation where a customer orders Bluetooth earphones with built-in memory, an external memory card slot, and pause-play media buttons. They get all the features promised but not the external card slot. Will the customer buy again from you? The obvious answer is a NO, as they have lost their trust in you as a seller. The feeling of being fooled will last for a short period of time, but the negative impact on your business, trust, and credibility will be for a long time. Another considerable example is the availability of legitimate contact details. It is another factor that adds to the trust and credibility of the user as they will contact you for any mishap. Additionally, customer testimonials, reviews, feedback, and ratings also add to the trust and credibility factor. They can influence the customer's purchase decision positively or negatively. So, it is a must to provide standard products or services to consumers to increase any business’s credibility and trust in the market.

Desirable

This principle states that a service or a product should be desirable to the end users or the customers. Similarly, a business should have its unique USP and distinct identity to cater to its users. This identity or USP can be a business’s price, quality, packaging, ability to focus on users’ pain points, and many more. The main point to note here is that a brand’s website or product is its front face and it should leave a positive and confident impact on the users. If a brand or a product can assure its customers, it naturally becomes desirable for them. One of the best examples to consider is apple vs. android. Most customers opt for the erstwhile when choosing a smartphone. Another example, Myntra will be the first choice for most when it comes to fashion shopping online.

Accessible

A product or service should be accessible, and usable for all types of users. It has been observed that there are physically challenged are unable to use a product or service. For a product to be successful in the market, all users should benefit from it. It is the job of a designer to design a product so that it is accessible to all its users. The designer must plan the product and target the users accordingly. Focusing on just one type of user/customer does not work positively for the product/service/brand. A noteworthy service is the introduction of voice search on tech applications, and websites for blind people. The use of color filters for people with color blindness is another example of a service accessible to all.

Valuable

The product or service must provide or add value to the users and the business. Most importantly, it should boost the user experience by solving problems and satisfying their needs. This should benefit both the user and the company overall. It must be kept in mind that value is one of the critical factors that impact purchasing decisions. So, the question that comes up is how a product can be made valuable. The most obvious way to make a product valuable is by intensive market research and consumer feedback. Working on a product that comprises all the vital features at its introductory adaption, and then checking for user feedback to improve the product is the tried and tested procedure.
